The world today faces significant challenges. As President Donald Trump prepares to take office on January 20, 2025, the international landscape is marked by major conflicts in Europe and the Middle East, escalating tensions with Communist China over Taiwan and the Philippines, a porous Southern border, and a resurgence of Jihadi terrorism, exemplified by the recent ISIS-inspired attack in New Orleans.
President Trump brings the resolve and experience needed to address these challenges effectively. Supporting him is a robust national security team comprised of figures such as Marco Rubio, Pete Hegseth, John Ratcliffe, Tulsi Gabbard, Pam Bondi, Kash Patel, Elise Stefanik, and Caroline Bessent. This team inspires confidence among allies and sends a strong message to adversaries.
Four years ago, when President Biden assumed office, Republicans demonstrated bipartisan cooperation by confirming his full cabinet. Now, it is imperative for Democrats to reciprocate by swiftly confirming President-elect Trump’s national security nominees, ensuring they are in place by Day One.
A key role in the new administration is the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), who is responsible for preparing the Oval Intelligence Brief and providing critical insights to the president multiple times a week. President Trump has nominated Tulsi Gabbard for this pivotal position. Gabbard’s extensive military experience, including over two decades of service and her role as a combat veteran in the Middle East, equips her with a deep understanding of the importance of accurate and timely intelligence. As a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve and Battalion Commander, Gabbard has exhibited exemplary leadership, patriotism, and commitment to national service.
Gabbard’s open-mindedness and intellectual curiosity make her well-suited to navigate the complexities of intelligence work. Her transition from Democratic congresswoman and presidential candidate to supporting President Trump highlights her willingness to prioritize the nation’s needs over partisan considerations. This quality is essential for leading the intelligence community.
In my discussions with Gabbard since her nomination, I have witnessed her ability to listen attentively, ask incisive questions, and articulate her perspectives concisely. She is committed to modernizing the intelligence community by combating partisanship and integrating advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and quantum computing into intelligence operations.
Despite the daunting global challenges, I am confident that under President Trump’s leadership, the United States will achieve unparalleled prosperity and security over the next four years and beyond. The American people have spoken, and it is now the Senate’s duty to promptly confirm the president’s national security team, including Tulsi Gabbard as DNI.
