Mary Trump, the estranged niece of President-elect Donald Trump, shared two predictions on Thursday ahead of her uncle's inauguration later this month.
A psychologist and media personality, Mary Trump has been an outspoken critic of her uncle, frequently warning about the risks he poses to the country and its government. She has built much of her personal brand on opposing her uncle’s political agenda, using her podcast, books, Substack, and mainstream media appearances to share her views.
Her latest predictions come as President-elect Trump faces increasing criticism, especially with his administration preparing to push a hardline immigration agenda and implement controversial policies.
In a Substack post titled "Through a Glass Darkly," Mary Trump outlined her two key predictions.
First, she anticipated continued "chaos and division" within the Republican Party. She criticized the role of billionaire Elon Musk in a recent bipartisan budget deal, arguing that it would hurt the GOP.
"Republicans do not know how to govern," she wrote. "This was validated two weeks ago when Donald and Elon Musk derailed a bipartisan budget deal, putting us on the brink of an entirely unnecessary government shutdown... Chaos and division are disastrous for governing, and the Republican Party will not benefit from this. These weaknesses will be exposed, and Democrats must seize the opportunity to counteract the damage Republicans aim to inflict on civil rights and our institutions."
Her second prediction involved the "strong coalition" of Democratic governors that she believes will act as a safeguard against the rise of "fascism."
Some members of Trump’s former administration, including ex-chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, have labeled him a "fascist." Donald Trump and some of his allies have also referred to their political opponents as "fascists."
"The best defense against the fascism now taking hold will be Democratic governors, particularly in blue states," Mary Trump wrote. "A united front among these states will protect undocumented workers and mitigate the damage the new administration will cause to the environment, public health, the economy, and women’s reproductive rights."
Her comments follow the promises of several Democratic governors to protect undocumented immigrants within their states, using sanctuary laws to shield them from mass deportation efforts led by Trump’s administration.
Governors and city mayors who plan to resist these policies have expressed concerns over the logistics of such operations, which are expected to target at least 11 million undocumented immigrants. California Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel, who chairs the Assembly Budget Committee, previously stated, "We need to be prepared, and while we hope to collaborate and avoid litigation, we have a responsibility to California residents to ensure we're not caught unprepared."
Shannon Watts, founder emerita of Moms Demand Action, also voiced concerns, telling *The Guardian* last month: "Donald Trump doesn't stop being a danger just because he won the election. He doesn’t deserve to be coddled or courted. There's room for bipartisanship, but it seems premature to start without clear leadership and a defined strategy."
On Monday, President-elect Trump celebrated his 2024 victory with a post on Truth Social, declaring: "We are the Party of COMMON SENSE, which is why we won the magnificent and historic Presidential Election of 2024."
He continued, claiming: "ALL SEVEN SWING STATES, 312 ELECTORAL COLLEGE VOTES, AND THE POPULAR VOTE BY MILLIONS OF VOTERS (Despite widespread voter fraud in multiple states, including California, where votes are still being counted or under review!), ALL WON WITH EASE, CALM, AND PROFESSIONALISM. Republicans are being praised for running a 'legendary' campaign!"
Looking ahead, Trump will take office on January 20, becoming only the second U.S. president to serve two nonconsecutive terms.
As he resumes office, the incoming administration is preparing to push forward with his immigration agenda, which includes a series of executive orders on "Day 1" aimed at mass deportations and strengthened border security.
His inauguration day is a day of mourning for many of us...flags should stay lowered. Idk why tRump thinks everyone is excited for the 20th when it is nothing but the beginning of the end. He will tear our government down and finish tearing our country apart. Many people will die sooner becoz of his taking office and the selfish changes he wants to make. tRump has sold his soul to the devil (Putin) and all the rethuglicans have sold their soul to tRump. How pathetic is that?! Scarey...
